01 Aug LE MANS ESPORTS SERIES ANNOUNCES SEASON 2 WITH FRESH APPROACH
The Le Mans Esports Series today confirms that the successful championship will return for a new season in 2020, with an increased total prize fund of $200,000. The series, a joint venture between the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, FIA World Endurance Championship and Motorsport Network, succeeded in engaging over 215,000 live viewers and 6.4 million social media impressions at last season’s “Super Final” at the 24hrs of Le Mans in June 2019.
Season 2 will continue to attract gamers from around the world with an innovative format that caters to competitors from both professional and enthusiast backgrounds. There will be both a “Pro” Team qualification championship and a “ProAM” championship for individuals to earn their place on the grid at the famous Circuit de la Sarthe in June 2020 for the “Super Final”.
- The Pro Team Qualification Series will have an application period open from XX to XX September 2019. During this time, teams will be invited to apply for a space on the grid with 3 drivers per team that will compete over 6 online rounds and win a place at the Super Final, taking place at the 24hr Le Mans weekend in June 2020. The qualification series will have $50,000 of the prize fund reserved for this online competition.
- The ProAM Qualification competition will be open to all and will consist of 6 qualification hotlap rounds to find 18 “Pro” drivers and the 9 “Amateur” drivers will be found with competitions held at the Autosport International Show and the World Endurance Championship rounds of Sebring and Shanghai. The competitors will be regionally located and structured into globally represented teams from 3 regions (Europe, Asia and Americas) at a team draft prior to Le Mans.
